Terry's Thoughts March 2021
Just when we think winter might be coming to an end a true cold snap falls upon us and we are once again a bit discouraged. However, just this week we have experienced a couple of sunshining days with temps inching up toward 60, and all of GOD’S PEOPLE SAID AMEN!!! Yessir, things are indeed looking up. In addition, the numbers of COVID cases are coming down, fewer hospitalizations, fewer deaths, and an overall optimism seems to be resurfacing among the sweet folks of our area. To be sure, there are still hurdles to overcome and life as we knew it will probably not ever return, but I do believe we are beginning a true recovery, albeit slowly. I am choosing to look at the brighter side of things instead of lingering on the negative. In fact, with the Lord’s help, I am becoming even more excited about our future than I have been in over a year (you noticed I did not mention the year of pandemic). My prayer is that you too will begin looking toward the One who is able give us the power to live as overcomers rather than those who have succumbed to defeat and fear.
It is also important that we do not forget to minister to those who have been affected by the pandemic by surviving its terrible effects, by suffering the loss of a job, or by suffering the loss of beloved family members. I would also add to that list the lost (those without an relationship with Jesus) in whom we have had greater opportunities than ever before to reach. We have indeed been changed and rather than checking out, let us look at our time as an opportunity to start something new. In fact, we, here at the association, are doing just that. After a successful “Post COVID-19 Revitalization” conference, on Saturday February 13, a cohort of those present will begin soon to flush out the details of what recovery could look like here within the West Chowan Baptist Association. Please pray, as we begin this journey, God’s Will to be accomplished and that a renewed interest in evangelism and discipleship would be rekindled within the WCBA. If you were unable to attend the training but would like to be a part of this cohort (done by zoom primarily as well as some in person) please do not hesitate to call. We would be delighted to include all those interested.
As I have indicated to our leadership, this year will be filled with starts and stops, but that we cannot afford to continue to sit still and doing nothing. Therefore, we are slowly scheduling events and meetings to get our association moving forward. Of course, there have been some meetings/events that have been canceled or rescheduled (Please keep your eye on our newsletter or website for those events that have been canceled or rescheduled) and there will probably be more, but we will continue to move forward. There are at least two events that will NOT be canceled (unless something terrible occurs). Those meetings are our Spring and Fall Association Meetings. To be sure they will be a bit different, but with attention to safety (mask and social distancing) we can and will meet. Of course, our Spring meeting will be here at the Association office on Sunday evening April 18, beginning at 6:00 P.M. and our Annual Fall meeting will be held at Aulander Baptist Church on Sunday evening October 17 beginning at 5:30 (or 4:00 if we are able to have a meal). PLEASE MARK YOU CALENDARS FOR THESE MEETINGS AND BEGIN PRAYING NOW FOR THEIR SUCCESS. For more information concerning the cancellations within the association or the rescheduling of association events please, as indicated above, consult our newsletter or website.
As always please remember you are very much loved, and it is an honor for me to serve the BEST ASSOCIATION IN OUR STATE!!!
